Nationaltheatret Station
Public Buildings
Nationaltheatret railway station is one of Norway’s busiest public transport hubs, with over 40,000 passengers daily. The station requires flooring solutions that can withstand continuous heavy traffic while ensuring both functionality and safety.
In 2006 and 2008 respectively, Acrylicon Flake System was installed on the platforms to meet these demands. A total of 7,200 m² across two platforms, each 250 metres long, was covered with this system.

Challenge: Extreme demands on wear resistance and safety
The platforms at Nationaltheatret station are subjected to constant stress from passengers, luggage wheels and mechanical cleaning equipment. The wear resistance must be exceptional to handle this daily pressure without compromising the floor’s functionality or aesthetics. Additionally, the station has strict safety requirements, including the need for colour-coded and tactile safety markings to help passengers navigate safely. It was also important that the floor was easy to maintain to ensure a clean and inviting platform all year round.
Solution: Durable and functional flooring with a focus on safety
AcryliCon chose the Acrylicon Flake System, a durable, hygienic and user-friendly flooring system that met all requirements. The floor has shown impressive results with nearly 20 years of continuous use without signs of significant wear. It is easy to keep clean with standard cleaning machines and is resistant to chewing gum marks and damage from suitcase wheels.
To ensure safety, the floor was equipped with colour-coded and tactile safety markings, providing both functionality and a modern appearance for the station. This solution has not only improved safety but also created an aesthetically pleasing and functional environment.
Result: Long-term value for demanding environments
Acrylicon Flake System has proven its strength as a sustainable investment for Nationaltheatret station. The floor combines exceptional wear resistance, easy maintenance and high safety, delivering both economic and practical benefits in one of Norway’s most demanding environments. This project demonstrates how the right flooring choice can provide long-term value in a hectic everyday setting.
