05. Non-toxic

Thermoset floors, such as epoxy and PU, contain Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), which can be harmful.

• Epoxy contains, among other things, bisphenol A (BPA), a substance listed on the SVHC list (Substances of Very High Concern) of substances with significant health and environmental hazards.
  
• PU contains isocyanates, highly reactive compounds that also pose a risk to both health and the environment. The use of these substances is strictly regulated in many countries, and working with them requires extensive safety measures to protect workers and surroundings.
  
• Acrylicon: No risk of toxic substances. The products have the highest certification for indoor climate (M1) and food safety, documented with TuV FCC (Food Contact Certificate), and consist of completely non-toxic materials.

Challenges with toxic substances in epoxy and PU

• The curing process: During the curing process, epoxy and PU floors emit potentially toxic gases, which can pose a risk to both workers and surroundings.
  
• Wear and repairs: When epoxy or PU floors wear during use, harmful dust can be released. Dust and gases can also be released during drilling, cutting, or repairs, and especially during fire.
  
• Waste management: Replacement of thermoset floors results in special waste, as floor residues must be treated as hazardous waste.
